A broken childhood promise and a prince with a long-laid plan is a love-triangle setup built for a long run — 95 episodes is plenty of room to let that rivalry play out.
What it's about
The title lays out the premise directly: 竹马失约 (her childhood friend breaks his promise) — 竹马 ("bamboo horse") is the standard term for a male childhood friend or sweetheart, paired with 失约 (failing to keep an appointment or promise) — sets up a betrayal or disappointment early on, while 太子对她蓄谋已久 (the crown prince has long been scheming for her) reveals that the palace's heir has had his eye on her for some time, using the idiom 蓄谋已久 (a plan carefully laid long in advance). Together it points to a costume-drama love triangle between a childhood sweetheart who falls short and a prince who's been patient. The title doesn't spell out how their story resolves.
